Goals wind energy
At this moment almost 2.5% of the electricity produced in Belgium comes from wind energy. According to ODE it is possible to generate 27% of the electricity need from renewable energy with the expectation that the portion of wind in this case will rise from 30% to 50% (onshore/offshore).
The goals of the VWEA for 2020 are: 1,500 MW in Flanders and 2,800 MW in the North Sea, which would mean a total of about 600 turbines for Flanders.
Wind energy will also play a big part in the power supply internationally. Wind energy rises with an average of 20% annually in the EU. The European Wind Energy Association calculated that in 2030 it will be possible to obtain around 23% of the power supply from wind energy, even when a spectacular rise in energy use is taken into account.
